Publishers Association to Relaunch Publishers Green Network

The PA is relaunching its Publishers Green Network (PCN) on Thursday 26th May 2016.  The Network aims to help those in the book industry increase sustainability and reduce their overall environmental impact.  The PCN looks at the complete process/supply chain for physical and ebooks by providing a networking/information sharing forum to facilitate this.

David Nussbaum, CEO of WWF UK, will speak on recent developments in the international and national sphere, setting a framework for the global Climate agenda, and current priorities for WWF. Focusing on what this might mean for the publishing industry, Nussbaum will look at the need for partnerships with environmental charities.

PGN Chairman, Ashley Lodge of Pearson, said; “I am really delighted to be relaunching our group with David Nussbaum, the CEO of WWF UK. I passionately believe the PGN’s information sharing forum has  an important role to play in ensuring that the publishing industry continues to minimise its environmental impacts.” 

PA Chief Executive, Stephen Lotinga, said:  “We are delighted to be relaunching this important Network.  The publishing industry is committed to conducting its business in an environmentally sustainable way and supported moves for printed materials to be brought into the EU Timber Regulation. The relaunch of the PGN is further evidence of this commitment and will enable issues to be considered from a more strategic perspective.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

1.      The Publishers Association is the leading trade organisation serving book, journal, audio and electronic publishers in the UK. Membership comprises 120 companies from across the trade, academic and education sectors. 

2.      Over the last six years, publishers have made high progress in eradicating paper coming from unknown sources – 97% now comes from known sources as opposed to 71% in 2009 (source PA annual production survey results in PA statistics yearbook)

3.      Publishers are actively involved with PREPS (the Publishers’ database for Responsible Environmental Paper Sourcing).  This database includes information on the country of origin of the wood fibre, how forest sources have been managed and information on carbon and water management practice.
